International adoption

Know more about our mission

International adoption is governed by the provisions of the Code for the Protection of Children and Adolescents, Law No. 136-03; the Hague Convention on international adoption.

In the Dominican Republic, two-way adoptions may occur. That is, if you are a resident or Dominican citizen and you want to adopt a child, girl or teenager to offer you a home and all the love you need, you can adopt a foreign child and in Adoptiva we will help you with the whole process. It is also possible to give a Dominican child to foreign parents for adoption to give them a suitable home. However, that child or adolescent must be adopted in a country that is a signatory to the Hague Convention.

Non-resident couples in the Dominican Republic that meet the requirements contemplated in the Law and agreements mentioned are those who will have to choose this type of adoption. As with domestic adoptions, among the requirements, it is found that adopters are in the age range of 30 to 60 years and there should be a difference of 15 years between the adopter and the adopted. However, for this type of adoption they must have been married for at least five years.

In international adoptions, applicants who wish to adopt a Dominican child, adolescent or adolescent must do so through an adoption agency, central authority or competent authority in their country of origin. This agency must be accredited in our country.d

Adoptiva is currently associated with five accredited and highly endorsed international agencies in the United States. So, if you reside in the United States and wish to adopt a child, girl or teenager from the Dominican Republic, you will first have to get in direct contact with one of our partner agencies. In this way, you can choose the one with which you most identify and with which you can start your adoption procedures.

As experts in helping families who want to adopt, we know that international adoptions can be more complex than domestic ones. Therefore, one of our main objectives is that families who have to reside here during the adoption process have everything much easier. For this, we offer different personalized concierge services, such as round trip transportation to the airport and daily transportation for your specific needs or for tourist purposes within the Dominican Republic. Likewise, we also help families find accommodation in a safe area of our country.

In the same way, we put at your disposal psychological facilitators that can accompany families. This is very important, since these professionals can teach you different tools to handle the different situations that could arise.

Our company has more than 13 years of experience helping families carry out international adoptions. And this experience allows us to successfully manage and complete the adoption process.

Once your adoption request is approved, the National Commission for Children and Adolescents Assignment Commission (CONANI) will pre-assign you a child or adolescent according to your profile.

Here all children and adolescents with the following characteristics are registered:

  • Children with special medical conditions
  • Old age children
  • Sibling groups

Inverted flow adoptions usually have shorter processes, since families that are open to adopting children with any of these characteristics (and meet the necessary conditions) will have the opportunity to choose the future or future members of their family from this list of immediate form. Of course, as long as the Assignment Commission of the National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI) understands that the adoptive family is suitable for the child or adolescent.

This stage of the process is wonderful and unique, since you will have the opportunity to live together and form a bond with your child, girl or teenager. It is divided into two phases:

  • The socialization
  • Cohabitation period

During the socialization stage, you will share with your child approximately two hours for a week. On the other hand, during the period of living together, your child will live with your family for a period of 60 days in cases of children under 12 years. Children over 12 years will have a period of coexistence of 30 days.

You can contact our team to schedule a virtual appointment. In it, you will be able to know all the necessary information to begin the adoption.
